Green Skills Community
The OnePlanet / Building Bridges hub
The purpose of the Hub is to have a physical presence. It provides a safe, welcoming, celebratory space that empowers people of all abilities to joyfully take action on sustainable living.
This space also allows us to show our potential partners how we work, to encourage groups who can’t work online to work in a safe space, and to convey more complex principles that are difficult to articulate via a website or through social media.
About OnePlanet
Connect, collaborate, regenerate
It’s time to ‘connect the dots’ on health, climate and equity. Our mission is to provide technology to enable citizens, organisations and governments to tackle climate change, build resilient communities and regenerate the living systems of Planet Earth on which we depend.
OnePlanet vision
Humanity’s future hangs in balance. We have lost our connection to the rest of life on Planet Earth. We need to RECONNECT. To REWILD land and cities. Farm in ways to REGENERATE soils. Move to clean RENEWABLE ENERGY. We need to RETHINK what is really important to us.
"There is something profoundly missing in the version of the world that is given to young people today" - Iain McGilchrist
Big idea 2024: our campaign for joined-up Government
As part of our contribution around COP, we were inspired by the work of our Young Leaders in systems-mapping UK local government climate plans, our intergenerational event on 12th December and the resulting Young Leaders’ Manifesto.
Previous events in the community
Working with youth
We have been working with the Berkshire Schools Eco Network, which has included speaking to school children about the UN sustainable development goals, taking a young climate activist to parliament (pictured speaking to Andrew Griffith the then Net-Zero Business Champion for COP26), and also running various workshops in the hub for local children.
Growing in the community
We have been working with CSK Architects, creating planters and cold frames for residents and community spaces. Creating these planters from ‘waste’ materials and growing herbs and vegetables in them tick many boxes in health and wellbeing, the circular economy and biodiversity. We look forward to taking this further with the Gather&Grow project.
Be kind to your mind
We have been fortunate to host weekly in-person sessions of a group from the mental health charity MIND – ‘Friends in Need’. It has been so humbling and exciting to watch the confidence and talent emerge from this wonderful group of individuals over the past year. They have taken themes of the UN sustainable development goals, and using more and more of the materials within the hub, or collected from nature, created wonderful art.
“It’s been a real life enhancing experience. This time last year, I could hardly get out of my house. It’s the best part of our group’s week.”
Cath – MIND Friends in Need East Berkshire group
